REFINING TECHNIQUES IN COMBAT
Constructing and Refining the first Combat Sequence of the Five-Animal Set

Shaolin Kung Fu

Grandmaster Wong illustrates how to refine one's techniques in combat

Combat sequences form an essential aspect of our sparring methodology. Our 16 basic combat sequences will enable us to handle any combat situation.

We can improve the efficiency and sophistication of our combat by applying patterns from our specialized sets. First we build our some combat sequences using patterns from our specialized sets. Then we refine some of the techniques.

This short series show Dr Damian from Shaolin Wahnam Malaysia and Nick Kryder from Shaolin Wahnam Canada in the process of constructing and refining their first combat sequence derived from the Shaolin Five-Animal Set.

“Shaolin Building from the Basic Combat Sequences

Nick Kryder and Dr Damian work out a combat sequence from their specialized Five-Animal Set. It is obvious that the base of their workout is our four basic combat sequences. Instead f using a Single Tiger, Nick uses a Mirror Hand to deflect Dr Damian’s Black Tiger. And instead of using a Precious Duck he uses Golden Leopard Speeds through Jungle to attack Dr Damian., who counters with Golden Leopard Rushes at Rock.

Grandmaster Wong shows Nick how to improve his techniques. Instead of using “Beauty Looks at Mirror” to deflect Dr Damian’s attack, and then counter with “Poisonous Snake Shoots Venom”, he can uses just one pattern for the two purposes. It is still “Poisonous Snake Shoots Venom” but applied in a different manner.
