STRIKING THE ATTACKER AS HE ATTEMPTS A SHOOT

Shaolin Kung Fu

An attacker who attempts the shoot exposes his head dangerously

Many people forget that wrestling is a sport with safety rules. Using the “shoot”, a popular wrestling technique, in a real fight is suicidal. The attacker dangerously exposes his head to be struck. Assuming the opponent is not skillful or knowledgeable enough to strike is silly.

There are many counters against the shoot. These counters may be classified into three categories – before the attacked has grabbed your legs, when the attacker has successfully grabbed your legs, and when the attacker has taken you down on the floor.

Shaolin Kung Fu Stopping a Shoot with a Decisive Strike

The “shoot” is a common attack in wrestling which is a sport. But using a shoot in real combat can be suicidal. You can kill or seriously injure an opponent attempting a shoot with a powerful strike on his head. To be merciful, you may stop him by breaking his collar bone.

Shaolin Kung Fu Never Risk Yourselves in the First Place

After striking a shooter’s head or shoulder, you can continue with more strikes on his head. This shows how dangerous it is to attempt a shoot in real combat without safety rules. To assume that an opponent is unable to do so is silly. In kungfu philosophy, the question is not whether the opponent is able, but we do not risk ourselves in the first place.

Shaolin Kung Fu Step Back to Avoid Opponent’s Momentum

Shaolin Kung Fu Sequence to Counter a Shoot

As in any counter, you need to be very familiar and fluent with the movements. An excellent way to prepare yourselves is to practice the counter-sequence. You should practice realistically with force. You may control your strike in a real fight if you wish to be merciful.

Shaolin Kung Fu Keeping an Opponent at Arm’s Length

When you extend your arm to strike your opponent as he attempts a shoot on you, even without hurting him, you have literally kept him at arm’s length. Your extended arm would prevent him from moving closer to you. Hence he cannot strike, kick, throw, grip or attack you in any way. On the other hand, you can attack him in many ways..
