COUNTERS AGAINST MUAY THAI AND KICK-BOXING ATTACKS

An excellent way to counter kicks is to use body-movemtn to avoid the kick and simultaneously strike the kicking leg


Technically, it is not difficult to defend against or counter attacks of Muay Thai fighters or Kick-Boxers. They, why do many kungfu practitioners become helpless when faced with such attacks? The straight-forward answer is that they do not know any self-defence – regardless of whether the attacks come from Muay Thai fighters, any other martial artists or even any untrained persons!

This video series show some effective tactics and techniques against Muay Thai fighters and Kick-Boxers. But we must not forget that merely knowing the tactics and techniques is insufficient. You must also have the necessary skills, like force, speed and stamina. Despite our tactics and techniques, a skillful Muay Thai fighter or Kick-Boxer can still defeat us.

Shaolin Kung Fu Counter-Striking after his Initial Kick

Initiating their attacks with a kick is a common tactic of Muay Thai fignters and Kick-Boxers. An effective counter is as follows. Use your stance to shift your body backward to avoid the initial kick of your attacker, then cover him and strike him continuously. If you cover him well, he has no chance to strike you, and you are too close for him to kick.

Shaolin Kung Fu Combat Philosophy and Mechanics of Counter

Grandmaster Wong illustrates the combat philosophy mechanics of the counter attack. When you execute a side-kick at a Muay Thai fighter or Kick-Boxer as he attacks you with his hands after he has initial kick, he cannot strike you or kick at you further without first moving back slightly. You must exploit this instant of his moving back to cover him and continuously strike him.

Shaolin Kung Fu Practicing the Sequence for Efficiency

Merely knowing the tactic and the techniques is not enough. You need to practice the counter many, many times until you can perform it flowingly with force. A good way is to compose the patterns into a sequence and practice the sequence many times everyday until you are very efficiency.
